Modified Floor Plan for Container Home
Jan 27th, 2010 by kyle
Over the last several days I have been looking at the design of our future container home and I realized that I could achieve much more with the design if I separated the two containers. If I was going do that, I figure I might as well put the staircase in the middle of the two containers. This would save me the hassle of having to cut out any structural cross members and give me the added room to take care of some of the limited space constraints of the house. The house is still very reasonably sized, and it is much more livable than the previous version.

Hi. I’m interested in the development of this project since my wife and I are considering a container structure for a cottage we want to build on some lakefront we’ve bought on Lake Manitoba. I’m curious to know more about how you plan to manufacture your design, as well as what you estimate the price/sq. ft. will be, completed.
Best,
Adam
Hi Adam,
Everything is very preliminary at this point. I have yet to get into costing, etc. Currently, my plan would be to build everything on site, utilitizing the services of a metal worker/welder to do the modifications. There are some custom pieces that I would need and these would be designed by a structural engineer. What ideas do you have for your cottage?
